Signal Hill

These are the sceneries of beautiful Kota Kinabalu from the observatory tower at Signal Hill [or Bukit Bendera], the hilly [duh~] green lung of the city. I like the place… the lush greenery, the awesome vista overlooking KK.

It is located just beside old KK city centre and is one of the few places of the former Jesselton where forested environment prevails. The little yet historic Anderson Clock Tower can be found at the foot of Signal Hill, though that place is not the original place where it stood before.

In recent months, there have been talks and court cases on developing the site for commercial purposes. I think it is pity if a place of natural heritage and a historic landmark is sold for something that can be built somewhere else. Why do we need to be so gluttonous and don’t care about our environment and history just for the sake of petty things like hotels and shopping malls? KK has enough malls and hotels. There are still a lot of lands left for these kinds of developments.

These kinds of greedy people should get new brains and think about the consequences of the things they’re doing!

Worldwide Photo Walk: A Memento

Hey! A group photo that we took during the Worldwide Photo Walk! Cool! I hope I can join the next one in KL and possibly Penang!

Real Steel

Watching Atom~!
I'll dance if you teach him to fight
Look at me~! No, ME~!
I can’t even begin on how to describe how epic this movie is! I wanted to watch Real Steel since the first time I saw the trailer, and from that alone, I thought that the movie could be amazing, and indeed… Real Steel is the real deal!

The story takes place in the near future where robots have taken the role of the humans in the sport of boxing. Former boxer, Charlie Kenton [Hugh Jackman] tries to earn his living [and pays his debts] by participating in underground robot boxing matches. His life [which is bad] takes a turn when he meets his estranged son, Max Kenton [Dakota Goyo]. With Max [and Atom, Max’s newfound robot] by his side, Charlie begins to find a new hope, and thus, a new journey that involves a father, a son, and a robot sets offs.

First of all, how many movies have these Americana feelings to them? I think Real Steel has that taste of America in it. The state fairs, the pubs, the American countryside, heck even the truck… the awesome cinematography enhances the movie beautifully! The BGM/soundtrack… SWEET... especially the music during the final fight and when Max digs Atom the Robot! They complete the movie aurally. The FX and animatronics are just remarkable. Hey it’s an American movie, right? I say… the robots are cool!!!

Hugh Jackman is convincing as Charlie Kenton. The old champ acts quite well. Of course, the guy that I really like the most is the little Dakota Goyo. He’s SUPER CUTE! With his blue eyes, I just want to ship him here and pinch him!!! He got those acting chops too… really, really great for a 12-years-old kiddo! Dakota connects with Hugh in the movie. Their portrayal of a father-son relationship is nothing but tender and charming and REAL! Oh yeah, those dance moves by Dakota are surely groovy! I moved to the beat~! I also love the final scenes, the burst of emotions there: hope, happiness, struggle, suspense, madness~ everything are so overwhelming, they just drag me into the movie!!! Believe me!!! I'm captivated with the stellar performances by Hugh and Dakota!

Real Steel is packed with loads of stuffs… A punch of entertainment, the movie certainly rocks! I left the hall almost crying when the movie was over…

The movie is not just about robots... it's more than that~ It's about courage against all odds! It's about giving second chances! It's about the superheroes that reside in us! Real Steel is undeniably a pure knock-out! [My wish list now includes a boxing robot and Dakota Goyo…. Hahaha~]

P.S.: Dakota Goyo's ロボット shirt that he wears at the end of the movie is so cool~!
P.P.S.: I think I reblogged/blogged/wrote a lot of things about Real Steel on my tumblr

Sweetheart of Loneliness

The dark is silent
As she walks to the window
Missing everything, hardly telling anything
If a year only passes on like a minute
This would not be an ache

But some dreams are fancies
That will never come to life

She’s a sweetheart of loneliness
She watches the sun fades
Waiting for her prince to come
Bringing her to the aisle
But stories made for a child
Sometimes never come to life

She’s a sweetheart of loneliness
Has a heart, unbroken
Yet it is not even whole
Trying to find her way out
But there’s no telling
Where she’ll end with.

Decorate

Currently spending some intimate moments with my new darling, YUNA’S DECORATE. This is Yuna's second album, but it was actually released in 2010. I had been searching for it for a long time, and finally, got it a few days ago. The tracks:

Gadis Semasa
These Streets
Penakut
Fireworks
Rocket
Random Awesome
Permission
Cinta Sempurna
Decorate
Super Something
Dan Sebenarnya

The album is freaking awesome! Everything from the unique cover art, the songs [especially the English ones], the sweet voice of Yuna… In short: I deeply adore DECORATE!

Afraid

Afraid of falling, afraid of failing, afraid of tumbling from the zenith, only to find oneself lying in the no man’s land that has been avoided for a very long time.

That’s what I’m afraid of. Sometimes, we’ve done the best we could, but things don’t turn out as what we’ve expected. Even if the results are just inches away from our high expectations, we might feel so low. It feels like the hopes of gaining great things are crumbling, and we find ourselves on the bottom, unable to cling on to the rope. The summit is far away now. Exaggerated much, but I do feel that way at times.

I’m afraid of having the things that I fight for get away from me. I’m afraid of unable to achieve what I’ve dream for. I’m afraid of losing the place.

I’m afraid of the reality that I’ve not seen yet.

Maybe the things I’ve done are still not good enough, that’s the real thing.

Scott Kelby's Worldwide Photo Walk: The Photos

Here are some of the photos that I had shot during Scott Kelby’s Worldwide Photo Walk. I really like to capture photographs that focus on colours and textures. I’m still an amateur, so I tried my best to give the best out of the photos.

Hope you’ll enjoy them!

Scott Kelby's Worldwide Photo Walk

If you are a photography enthusiast [or a photographer… hahaha], then you must have heard about Scott Kelby’s Worldwide Photo Walk. It is a global event in which thousands of photographers walk here and there in various cities across the world and capture random [or not] images of those places, a street photography of sorts. 2011 is the fourth year of this annual event. Anything that can capture photos can be used [DSLR, point-and-shoot, cam phone, iPhone, iPad, etc.] and get this, WWPW is always free!

Kota Kinabalu’s 2011 edition of WWPW was held today morning and marked the second time the city joined in as part of the walk. I participated in this event as a walker along with another four friends of mine, Zell, Syed Noor Yazeed, Ummi, and Afiezul. We went throughout KK for about two hours in the morning, and although we were exhausted due to the heat, I think we gained a lot of experience in improving our skills. I didn’t shoot a lot of photos though. Besides, I still need to catch up with the rest of the others in my photographing skill, but yeah… every good photographer needs to start from somewhere.

[P.S.: Thanks for your camera Moy~!]
The Walkers and the Leader, Jackson. See that LEADER shirt? Nice!
The gang [Zell, SNY, Pijul, and Um]
 Snap~!
The walk was pretty tiring... but F U N!
